The History of Mardin Castle

The Mardin Castle has a deep- rotted history. There are various rumors of the castle

It was built as a military structure. It has a deep-rotted history of 1600 years. Considered its location, all civilizations in area used this castle. The Castle is called as “eagle's nest” by local people.

Shad Bukhari who whorshiped the sun and  fire in the 330 AD stayed in Mardin Castle. He recovered a serious illness while he was staying in the castle. When he got well, he made himself built a palace in here. He had lived in there for 12 years. Then, he brought several soldiers and civillians who were from his hometown, Persian and Babylon. He made them built a settlement to Mardin. Thanks to effect of public, progress was seen until 442 AD. With the spread of plague, people in the castle died. The Castle of Mardin hasn’t been used until 542 AD.

When you want to visit this castle, you don’t have to pay a fee. But you need to climb a long staircase to reach the castle.
