He began his football career at Antayalspor where he was born in 1985. Yilmaz played an important role in Trabzonspor's success between 2010-12 years under Senol Gunes. One year later, he signed for Galatasaray and he won two league titles under Fatih Terim and Hamza Hamzaoglu.
